Tears of regret
There in the rumble he hid from his enemies. Guns blazing, bullets wheezing past his sides, with his heart racking. Closer the enemy came, with guns and weapons that bread death.
In the rumble and tumble he could see them all, as they gained distance to his hideout with one intent. His end; there in the hole where he crept, dead bodies lay on his feet, he could feel a skull when he changed his stand. Blood of dead compatriots and enemies alike soaked his booths and reached his ankle.
His Sweat pores opened, as his whole body became immersed in a flood of his own sweat, his hands were moist to the trigger of his gun that had no bullets. He wished the ground would open, and swallow him, hiding him from his enemies. But there he stood, to his chagrin. No where to hide.
In that moment, his hands froze, his eyes and face was drenched in fear. All his years of military experience was lost, he became more human at that second, more frail and vulnerable. As the thoughts of his lover at home came sloshing through his mind. His thoughts went out to that morning, he had gone out angry with his wife. So many things he would have told her came flashing like lightening through his mind. He thought about his son, he had not spoke to for years now, he remembered his mother. For the first time he realized he had spent his life causing pain to those who loved him.
In that moment, he could see death just in front of his eyes. Nearer the came, breeding death in their breath. All his fellow compatriots had gone a yonder, as he saw their bodies carelessly strewn in the open field. which god will I call on? He thought, his eyes blazed even in daylight, in an instant, his body was frozen to fear. Yes it’s now or never he whispered, as he could see the shadows over head.
And now that I am going? What did I do with all the time I was given? He whispered to himselfThere in his final words, a bullet with the speed of light went past the helmet on his head.He went to sleep like we all will someday, never to wake. As he fell, a tear escaped from his eyes. Tears of regret
